Robert Trimmer ’60

Robert Trimmer ’60, 80, of Granger, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 3:45 pm. Born in Binghamton, NY to Charles and Dorothy Trimmer, he was raised in Schenectady and lived most of his life in Elkhart and Granger, Indiana.Robert graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI with a chemistry major and biology minor. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he trained at Fort Devens, MA as a security analyst. Robert completed his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY, in 1973. From 1973-2004 Robert worked as a pharmaceutical and diagnostic chemist at Miles Labs (Elkhart, IN) and for the FDA in Rockville, MD as a regulatory review scientist. Robert loved gardening fruit trees and modern and antique roses, and was a Purdue Advanced Master Gardener, where he gave many lectures on various horticultural areas.Robert taught Sunday school at McCoy Memorial Baptist Church. He was a Gideon International speaker local and state officer for 40 years.Robert married Telma (Berberian) Trimmer, his bride of 53 years, on July 24, 1965 in Albany, NY. Robert is also survived by his children, Roberta (Trimmer) Lovan of Elkhart, IN and Derek Trimmer of Carthage, IN, 6 grandchildren, Joseph, Samuel, Rachel, Grace, Connor, and Caitlin; along with 3 great-grandchildren, May, Oliver, and Levi.
