Marian Vande Bunte ’44

Marian Ruth Vande Bunte, loving aunt to many, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Marian was a sweet, gracious and independent woman. A woman of faith who loved her lord and was not afraid to live her life for him. In spite of her declining sight and hearing she continued to live life to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was the oldest of 4 children and graduated from Hudsonville High School with the class of 1940. Marian graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Hope College in 1944 and continued on to be a lifelong educator. She was a teacher in the Zeeland, Grand Haven, Freemont, Godfrey Lee and Denver, Colorado school districts.

Ms. Vande Bunte was a long time member of Garfield Park Reformed Church and was a current member of Third Reformed Church in Holland. Marian was actively involved in her church communities, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a part of many woman’s organizations. She was also a great cook and was known for her pineapple angel food cake and swiss steak. Marian was the glue that kept the family together and will be missed by many.

Ms. Vande Bunte is survived by her sister, Hazel (Leon) Wiersema; sister in-law, Elaine (Lewis) Vande Bunte; loving nieces & nephews, Esther (Richard) Vande Bunte, Katherine (Barb) Vande Bunte, Mary (Michael) Ross, Brian (Anne) Wiersema, Steven (Jane) Wiersema, Van Alan Wiersema, Janet (Steven) Brunner. She was preceded in death by her sister, Vera (Lester) Hintz.
