James Yuk ’48

James Yuk ’48 age 93, of Henrico, Virginia, peacefully passed away June 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jennie Yuk; and brother, Richard K. Yuk, all of Grand Haven, Michigan; as well as brother, Carl T. Yuk of Spring Lake, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanne White Yuk; son, Richard H. Yuk and his husband, Kenn Shirley; daughter, Lynn Garrett Farrell and her husband, Patrick Farrell; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Garrett and John (Jack) A. Garrett Jr. He was born in Grand Haven, Michigan of Dutch ancestry, earned his bachelor’s degree at Hope College and did postgraduate work at Oklahoma State University and the University of Iowa. A Ph.D. chemist with DuPont for 40 years, he was also active with his church, Bon Air Presbyterian, and a scoutmaster for Troop 460 for many years. He was a devoted and loving family man, who was happiest spending time with his family on countless trips in their pop-up camper and later, tent camping with the grandchildren, backpacking with Jeanne, hiking and playing cards. He was an accomplished woodworker and loved gardening, both of which he continued to enjoy at Lakewood Manor. His huge heart and smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His was a life well lived. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the third floor health care staff at Lakewood Manor and to the Bon Secours Hospice team. Your loving care and kindness expressed in so many ways will long be remembered.
