William Seiberling ’79

William “Bill” M. Seiberling passed away on April 29, 2023 at the age of 67 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Akron, Ohio on May 27, 1955 to William C. and Jeanne M. Seiberling.

Bill had a wonderful childhood growing up in Columbia, Turkey, and Taiwan. In high school, he developed a love of rock and roll music, and along with his brother Tom and sister Penny, he started a band that continued throughout his early 20s.

Bill attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan. While living there, he met his wife Laura, and the couple married in 1980. They moved to Vermont and then New Hampshire, where Bill attended graduate school, and to Florida in 1988. Married 42 years, Bill was a loyal and devoted husband. He enjoyed being a father and had a special bond with his son Michael. The two regularly went for coffee to talk about life.

Bill’s love of music continued throughout his life. He rehearsed and played shows with his friends at local venues around Sarasota. He retired as a project manager for the Sarasota County Clerk of the Court in 2019.

Bill was inquisitive of other people’s lives and will be remembered as a good man who was reliable, funny, and kind.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother Tom and his sister Shelley. He is survived by his wife Laura; son Michael (fiancée Christina Turner); sister Penny (Steve) Thompson; brother-in-law Glenn Hughes; sister-in-law Julie Seiberling; niece Courtney Seiberling; nephew Paul Seiberling; brother-in-law Dave (Nane) Cooper; and brother-in-law Mike (Jan) Cooper.
