Craig Leslie ’51
Craig Leslie passed away peacefully Dec 1st, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born in Schenectady, New York on November 7, 1927 to his parents William and Frances Leslie. Craig was preceded in death by his wife Shirley K Leslie and had celebrated 60 years of marriage before her death. He attended Hope College where he met Shirley, after which he attended The Veteran’s Vocational School at Troy, in Radio & Communications and were married 7/2/49 in Chicago IL.
After graduating from the Veterans College, now Hudson Valley Junior College, with a degree in Electronics, he moved the Chicago area where he installed Radio Antennas, and later worked in the emerging development of Televisions. While at Radio Condenser, he designed the electronic portion of car radios, where an associate said that he knew more about coils than anyone else in America.
Craig worked for TRW (the former Radio Condenser) in both Hoopeston IL, and Markham, Ontario. He then worked at Standex Electronics (Cincinnati, OH) in Sales and then as Electrical Engineer where he holds several patents for his work.
For retirement in 1989 from Standex Electronics, Craig and Shirley moved to Scottish Highlands in Leesburg Florida (where they were a founding members of New Hope Presbyterian of Eustis FL). He recently moved to Lake Gibson Village of Lakeland, FL where he resided for the last 3 years.
Craig was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Dykstra (Leslie), daughter Nancy Atchison (Leslie) and husband Richard Atchison
Surviving Craig are his 2 sons Dwight ’72 Leslie (Beth Trimble) of Lakeland, Bill Leslie (Betsy Freson) of Cincinnati and daughter Linda Leslie ’82, also of Cincinnati. Craig was a grandfather to Sarah Leslie, Scott Leslie, Mary Leslie, Stephen Leslie, Burt Leslie, Craig Leslie and great grandfather to Alora Kuenzel, Benjamin Leslie, Joshua Leslie.
