Joyce Sibley ’48 Van Ry
JOYCE S. VAN RY, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018. Born June 22, 1925, in Amsterdam, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Rev. L.A. and Mary Sibley. Joyce was a 1944 graduate of Hope College and retired from DeKalb Central Schools after 21 years of teaching.
She was a Jubilee member of First Presbyterian Church and taught in the nursery school. Joyce enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, her family and friends, with her greatest passion being the theater. She was a member of the Civic Theater Guild and was involved in the production of 100 shows. She received two Anthony Awards for outstanding technical achievement as well as the George H. Koegel Lifetime Achievement Award.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Jody (David) Young and Bobbi (George) Wagner; grandchildren, Emily (Nicholas) Darrah and Ryan (Jessica) Young; step-granddaughter, Angela (Scott) Fenstermaker; three great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her beloved cat, Olivia.
