Paul Alderink ’50

Rev. Paul J. Alderink ‘Preacher’, age 91, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017. Born in Holland, Nov. 5, 1926. Graduate of Central High School, Hope College and Western Theological Seminary. Married Doris Jean Prins in 1950. Married for 67 years, they have 5 children

Enlisted in the Navy 1944, served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. Taught 6 and 7th grades at North Park in Grand Rapids, Pastored churches in Jamestown, Michigan, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Annville, Kentucky and Platte, South Dakota. Served as Director of Annville Institute and Jackson County Ministries.

In addition to his wife Doris, survived by their children, Bruce and Barb Alderink, Tim and Karen Alderink of Holland, Michigan, Sue and Dan Kappers of Waynesville, North Carolina, Mark and Katy Alderink of Ludington, Michigan and Scott and Julie Alderink of Wagner, South Dakota. He is remembered by 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. ‘Preacher’ is also survived and enriched by his greater family, sharing life in Michigan, Kentucky and South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mina Alderink, parents-in-law, Jacob and Marie Prins, brother-in-law Robert (Bud) Prins and great grandsons Isaiah and Mason Thaler.

Celebration of Life will be 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 14 at First Reformed Church, 630 State Street, Holland. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Wednesday December 13 at Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32rd Street.
