Ronald Giermann ’69
Ronald William Giermann of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away on Sunday July 2, 2023 while under the care of Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida.
Ron was born in Chicago on March 21, 1947 and lived with his family in Riverdale, Illinois. He graduated from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois in 1965.
He then moved with his family to Holland, Michigan in 1967 where he graduated from Hope College in 1969.
In 1985 he satisfied a long time desire and moved with his partner Rick Allen to Cape Coral, Florida from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He and Rick were married there in August 2015 with the Reverend Susan Rice Waller officiating.
A jack of all trades he worked in a clothing store, as a substitute teacher, in a tool and die shop and finally at the state agency Florida Department of Elder Affairs for many years and from which he retired. This position satisfied his desire to be of service to other people, in this case his elderly clients.
Among the things he enjoyed were living in Florida, playing and listening to fine loud rafter rattling organ music, riding his Harley, Fords, loving dogs and serving his church, Faith Presbyterian of Cape Coral.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mildred Giermann, long time residents of Cape Coral and sister in law Nancy Lundgren.
Ron is survived by his spouse and partner of forty years Richard Allen, his brother Jerry Giermann of Holland, Michigan, his niece Mary Giermann of Holland, Michigan and his nephew William Giermann of Santiago, Chile who thought he was a cool uncle.
