Ben Tubergen ’76

Ben D. Tubergen, age 69, of Holland passed away on Saturday morning, July 15, 2023. He died in the comfort of his home following a cancer diagnosis in April 2023.

Ben was born in Holland on December 12, 1953. He was a graduate of Holland Christian High School, attended Calvin College and graduated from Hope College in 1976. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Cooley Law School. He was a longtime member of Providence Church. Ben was a proud parent, loyal friend, and caring neighbor to many in Holland Heights over his lifetime. He enjoyed using his talents for others and made hobbies of gardening, baking, and woodworking. Ben loved company, rarely locked the door, and was quick to send visitors home with freshly cut flowers or a plate of cookies. His family and friends have collected his skillfully made wooden signs and ornaments over the past many years.

Ben was preceded in death by his infant son Jeffrey, his parents Leonard and Juliet (Koops), and his older brothers Dave and Karl. He is survived by his children Julie and Ryan Bykerk ( Jacob, Samuel, Jesse), Emily and Tom Whisenhunt (Benjamin, Alexander, David, Nicholas, Evelyn), and Aaron and Carleigh Tubergen ( Winnie, Shepherd, Graham); his siblings Nancy and Jay Tucker, Julane and Mark DeBoer, Von Tubergan, and Joan Kortman; and many nieces and nephews.
