Sandra Holmen ’64 Harz
Sandra “Sandy” Kaye Harz, age 80 of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Trinity Health Hospital, Muskegon. She was born on July 8, 1942 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Carl and Rose (Pruis) Holmen. Sandy married Ray D. Harz on July 9, 1965 in Grand Haven.
Sandy graduated from Grand Haven High School and then obtained her Associate’s degree in business administration from Hope College. She also took classes at Baker College of Muskegon.
Sandy worked at “Ray’s Drive-In” in Grand Haven as a young bride, later working as an office manager for Boelkins & Associates, which she did for 35 years. She was a current member of First Presbyterian Church, and former member of First Reformed Church. Sandy was also a member of the Grand Haven Lions Club, and former member of the Grand Haven Golf Club, where she and Ray loved to go golfing. She was also a long-time Coast Guard Festival Committee volunteer, and for 10 years, served as Director for the Miss U.S. Coast Guard Pageant, as well as Chaperone.
Most importantly, Sandy loved her family. She loved being a grandma and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Sandy is lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 57 years, Ray; their son, Tad (Kim) Harz of Grand Haven; her three grandchildren, Bradley, Lydia, and Maxwell Harz, and their mother, Marlys Brooks; and her seven brothers and sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother; and brother-in-law, Tom Harz in 2020.
