Allen Grube ’59
Allen Ward Grube, age 84, of DeMotte, Indiana went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 20, 2021. Allen was born on August 8, 1937 to Vernon and Jacoba (nee DeKock) Grube.
He graduated from DeMotte High School in 1955 and Hope College in 1959. Al married his high school sweetheart, Arlene Kingma, on July 17, 1959. They lived in Chicago Heights, Illinois for the first eight years of their marriage, and during that time their two children, Dave and Julie, were born. Al worked as a construction foreman and served in the Army Reserves from 1960 until 1967. In 1967, they moved back to DeMotte, where he owned and operated Hillside Lanes Bowling for over 20 years and Grube Construction for 50 years, retiring in 2017.
Al loved and faithfully served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the American Reformed Church in DeMotte, where he served in various capacities including deacon, elder, and youth leader. Al was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson participate in sports and school activities over the years.
Allen is survived by his loving family: wife, Arlene Grube; daughter, Julie (Christopher) Shea; daughter-in-law, Carol Grube; 4 granddaughters: Rachael Shea (Keith Seppel), Lindsey (Quinlan) Amundson, Lauren (Derek) Kunzman, Emma Grube; 6 great-grandchildren: Adam, Evelynn, Abigail, Fisher, Declan, and Nyla. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Julia A. Grube, and son, David A. Grube.
