Donald Northuis ’55
Donald Gene Northuis, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 25, 2019. He was born in Holland, Michigan, to Almer and Betty (DeFouw) Northuis on March 11, 1932; and married Eunice Schipper of Zeeland, Michigan, on June 24, 1953. Don attended Holland High School, Hope College and Western Michigan University. After graduation, he taught in Muskegon Public Schools and coached in Grand Haven Area Public Schools.
As a member of the Second Reformed Church of Grand Haven, he served as the director of music for 30 years, and also as an elder. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed family activities, woodworking, gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, and attending Grand Haven and Hope College events.
Don is survived by Eunice, his wife of 66 years; six children: Susan (Clarence deceased) Liang, Ann (Steve) Knoll, Richard (Tresa) Northuis, Mark (Pam) Northuis, Jane (David) Wright and Michael Northuis; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Northuis. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Kenneth and Rodger Northuis.
