Pastor Richard J. Vander Borgh ’64

Pastor Richard J., of Westwood (formerly of Dumont) was born May 12, 1942 in Bay Shore, NY to Andrew Vander Borgh and Gertrude Veryzer Vander Borgh, and entered into eternal life on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

He received his formal education by attending four years at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Pastor Vander Borgh then attended Oberlin Graduate School of Theology, Oberlin, Ohio for two years, where he earned a Masters in Theology, and spent a year at the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, New Brunswick, NJ.

Pastor Vander Borgh began his pastoral career at the Linlithgo Reformed Church, Livingston, NY, where he served as pastor from 1967 – 1973. He continued his career as pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, Mohawk, NY from 1973-1983, and then became pastor of the Old North Reformed Church, Dumont, from 1983 until his retirement in 2014.

Pastor Vander Borgh is survived by his sisters-in-law, Jane Vander Borgh and Joanne Barton ’58 Vander Borgh, and brother-in-law, Edward Bratton and his wife Antoinette. Also survived by his dear niece, Trudy Nasta and her husband Joe, many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and his cherished dog, constant companion and best friend, Abby.

He is predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Joan (nee Bratton) and his brothers; Andrew, Clarence ’60 and Robert Vander Borgh.
