Bretton Allyn Folkert ’93

Bretton Allyn Folkert, age 45 of Ada, Michigan finished his race on earth and crossed the finish line into Heaven on August 28, 2016.

He was born in Zeeland, Michigan in 1970. He leaves (for now) his best friend and the love of his life, Julie Bos ’93 Folkert, to whom he was married for 21 years. Brett is survived by his wife and the children he loved so dearly and was extremely proud of: Elena Allyn, Claudia Marie, and William Bretton.

He is survived by his parents, Alan and Judi Folkert of Zeeland; his parents-in-law, Mark and Karen Bos; his siblings: Nate and Jackie Folkert, Kara Folkert, John ’04 and Jennifer Folkert ’05 Siehling, and Nathan and Allison Mashman; his sisters-in-law Lisa Bos ’97 and Amy Bos ’99; his aunts and uncles Dave and Jane Folkert and Carl ’74 and Barb Koop ’74 Folkert; his grandmothers, Hulda Rigterink ’41 Folkert and Marie Geerlings ’62 Blauwkamp; and many cousins, nieces and nephews that he adored.

Brett was a software engineer, with a Bachelor of Science degree from Hope College, a Master of Science in computer science from the University of Colorado, as well as a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He served for 4 years in the US Navy, specializing in naval intelligence. His passions included mountain biking, science fiction, computers, reading, politics, grilling, attending his girls’ sporting events, fitness, and training for triathlons. He was a finisher at IronMan Texas in May 2014. Brett was a true and faithful servant of the Lord, and planted many seeds for Christ during his short journey on earth.
