Harvey Heerspink ’49
Harvey R. Heerspink, age 97, of Jenison, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. He was born on November 7, 1925, in Holland, Michigan, to Albert and Minnie Heerspink. Harvey was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the 1391st Army Air Force Base with the Air Transport Command in the Azores. After returning from the war, Harvey graduated from Hope College in 1949 and later received his master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1963. In 1950, he married Barbara Brunsell who preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rev. Robert Heerspink, in 2011. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, David (Lora) Heerspink; daughter-in-law, Edith Heerspink; six grandchildren, Eric (Katie) Heerspink, Joel (Corin) Heerspink, Amy (T.J.) Boyd, Jason (Stephanie) Heerspink, Dawn Heerspink, Bethany Heerspink; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marge Heerspink; and many nieces and nephews. Harvey taught for many years at Michigan State University, Fremont High School, Grand Rapids Christian High School, and Calvin University. He retired from Calvin University after serving as a Federal Loans Officer. Harvey was a longtime member of South Grandville Christian Reformed Church and served for many years as an Elder there.
