Deborah Reuss ’69

Deborah Boles Reuss, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, after a brave struggle with cancer.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1947, Deb graduated from North Central High School in 1965 and received her BS in Psychology from Hope College in 1969. She taught 8 grade in the Chicago Archdiocese School System for 25 years, then served as a hospice chaplain for 15 more years.
Deb found ways to express her creativity through endless varieties of arts and crafts – painting, making cards, scrapbooking, designing, making floor cloths, needle work, quilting, and more. She loved music – listening, playing guitar and singing in the choir at Sunday Mass. No cooking adventure was beyond her attempt.
Being an avid traveler, Deb was always looking for new places to visit – museums, Shakespeare festivals, birding trips to Cosa Rica, camping trips with her kids and friends, traveling all over the country in her motor home (trips to Maine for lobster probably being her favorite).
Deb was an active member of Church of the Apostles and had embraced Anglicanism as she awaited joining her brother and sister in heaven. Her favorite expression was “Heaven is not a consolation prize.”
Deb is survived by her husband, Eric Reuss; four children, Sarah Henseler of Ypsilanti, MI, Katherine Leavitt of Brookline, NH, Christian Waterman, of Alameda, CA, and Rebecca Waterman, of Williamstown, VT; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Boles, sister, Margaret Boles, and her parents, Marjorie and Nolan Boles. Deb was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.
