Robert Hoffman ’72

Mr. Robert Lee Hoffman, age 71, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He was born in Muskegon on June 5, 1950, to Herman and Edna (Medema) Hoffman. He attended Muskegon Public Schools and then Hope College where he received a bachelor’s degree. On June 10, 1972, Bob married the former Yvonne Gillmer and together raised their two sons, Lee and Chris. Bob worked in a foundry for several years before becoming an elementary school teacher. He worked for Muskegon Heights Public Schools for more than 25 years. In his younger days, Bob enjoyed fishing and spending time at Silver Lake. He also enjoyed taking many camping trips around the United States with his family. Bob was a gifted writer and could usually be found on his computer and listening to music. He wrote several novels throughout the years. He was an excellent cook and made sure to make extras for friends and family to take home. Most of all, Bob loved being a father and recently a grandpa. He greatly enjoyed watching his children play sports and was very proud of them. Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 50 years, Yvonne; sons, Lee (Christy) Hoffman and Chris (Rachel) Hoffman; grandson, Henry and step-grandsons, Austin and Cooper Fox; mother-in-law, Ann Gillmer; many nieces and nephews; and canine family member, Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Judy Ganeff and Marilyn Hoffman.
