James Hutton ’55

James Strang Hutton, 89, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, May 8, 2022 with his family at his side, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, NY.
Born in Niskayuna on November 9, 1932, Jim was one of two children of Raymond and Ruth (Strang) Hutton. He was a proud graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
After graduating college in 1955, Jim entered the United States Army, where he served honorably in Europe. Jim worked for the New York Telephone Company for 37 years, during which time he met the love of his life, Catherine Early. They married on August 29, 1959 at Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Albany before settling in the Village of Colonie, where they lived for almost 60 years and raised their family.
Jim cherished his family above all else. He was an avid golfer, spending almost every weekend on the links with his brother-in-law John. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and at the pool with his children and grandchildren. As their grandchildren entered into school, Jim and Cath never missed a sporting event or musical concert. As they grew, Jim had a special relationship with each of the five grandchildren, and they truly were his pride and joy. He loved vacationing in Maine and Cape Cod, especially when the entire family could all be together.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Catherine; as well as his parents and sister, Joyce Schreiner. Survivors include Jim’s three children, Craig (Pamela) Hutton, Karen (John) Reilly, and Jeff (Karen) Hutton. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Abby (Gavin) Hutton, John Reilly, Katie Hutton, James Hutton, and Jacob Hutton, as well as several nieces and nephews.
