Jack Oonk ’86

Jack Chester Oonk ( 64) of Holland, MI passed away peacefully in his home on May 7th, 2022.

Jack was a man of many talents and a big heart. A member of the Holland Community Theater for his whole adult life, his most memorable role being that of Fagan in the theatre’s production of Oliver.

Jack was also a long-time member of the HollandWindmill Chorus and lead singer in several local bands including, most recently, Lomax Big House.

Jack loved woodworking, reading theDiscworld series by Terry Pratchett, grilling, and watching the NFL channel. A lifetime resident of Holland, he graduated fromWest OttawaHigh School and later Hope College after serving in the US Navy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty Oonk-Wojahn and Chester Oonk; younger sister, Jamie Jo Oonk; and first wife, Yuko Tachikawa Oonk.

He leaves behind wife, Maria Teresa Romero Cárdenas of Monterrey, Mexico, two daughters, Emiko ( William) Walker of Rochester, Minnesota, and Cassie Oonk ( Lydia Terpstra) of Holland; sister Mary Oonk ’73 (Michael ’70) Veele of Holland, brother Michael (Barbara) Oonk of Zeeland; sister-in-law Santa Romero Cardenas of Monterrey, Mexico; grandchildren Sophie ( 8) and Zen ( 2) Walker, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.
