Charles Mulder ’50

Charles Henry Mulder, 96, passed peacefully in hospice care, with his loving wife of 69 years, “Patty” by his side, February 24, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Della, brother Robert. Born in Grand Haven, he made his home in Grand Rapids and Howard City. He is survived by his life-long play partner and caring wife (peel me a grape), Patricia, daughter Susan (James) Tubergen, son Steven (Cathleen) Mulder. Grandchildren, Alison (Patrick) Evarts, Tricia (Joel Haveman) Tubergen, Sean Tobin, Patrick Tobin and Ryan Mulder. Great grandchildren, Claire and Oliver. He is also survived by his brother David Mulder and nieces, Tina (Mark) Freckleton and Julie (Eric) Cotton. Charlie was a graduate of Hope College, served in WWII, 1st Battalion, 302nd Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division, The Battle of the Bulge. Steel salesman by trade, very social, lover of life, family and animals, loved to tell jokes, lover of music, avid whistler, king of cobble, kite flyer, boater, traveler, always busy doing something. “Write if you get work, castle by the lake keep smiling, hang by your thumbs”, among other were his favorite “Chuck-isms”. He touched the lives of many in his own special way throughout his life.
