Carl Nelke ’51

Dr. Carl D. Nelke, a retired dentist, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022. He was 92 years old. He was born on July 26, 1929 in Midland Park, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Pompton Lakes High School, attended Hope College, and graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in June of 1954. He then served as a dentist in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Dr. Nelke was a member of the American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, and the Tri-County Dental Association. He was a member of the Dental Fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blairstown where he was an elder, a deacon, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir. Dr. Nelke will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew him. He is survived by a son, Mark D. Nelke, D.M.D, of Hardwick, New Jersey, a daughter, Ann Nelke of Novi, Michigan, and a son, Carl D. Nelke, III of New York City, New York. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Meredith Hart Lozaga of Chesterfield, New Jersey and Paul Davis Nelke of Lynchburg, Virginia and his sister Amelia Terpstra of North Haledon, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Kuehm Nelke, R.N., two brothers: Charles Nelke and Albert Nelke, and a daughter-in-law, Melissa Hart Nelke.
