Sonya Hamm ’92 Brown

Sonya Hamm ’92 Brown, age 50, passed away May 17, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family. Sonya was born December 23, 1967 to James and Helga (Kluge) Hamm II in Muskegon. She attended Mona Shores High School and was a Young American for two years following her graduation. She also traveled to, and studied at, Goethe Institute in Iserlohn, Germany. Sonya then attended Muskegon Community College and graduated from Hope College with honors and a degree in business. She was working at Reid Tool Supply when she met Richard Brown. She and Rich married in Spring Lake on May 31, 1997. Sonya served as Director of Sales and Purchasing at Wiseman Inc. for more than 20 years from 1997 until 2018. Sonya loved reading and going to the beach. She also enjoyed her travels to Hawaii, Germany, Clearwater, FL, and Charlevoix. Most important was her love for family and friends. Sonya will be deeply missed and her memory cherished by Rich, her husband of nearly 21 years; daughters, Sophia Elizabeth Brown and Adele Julia Brown, both at home; son, Jordon Ray Brown; mother; brother, Jim Hamm; nephews, Eli and Zeke; great-niece, Bhanavi; aunt, Patricia Hoos; and cousins, Suzi, Betsi, Molli, John and families; Tante Magda; Onkel Karl-Ilona; cousins, Marion, Matthias, Oliver, Adele and Leon; in Germany. Sonya was preceded in death by her father, James, in 2006 and her uncle, John Hoos; Onkel Wolfgang and cousin Alexander in Germany. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held later this summer at the Mona Lake Boat Club, 372 Randall Rd. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Sophia and Adele’s college fund account through Richard Brown.
