Marian Reus ’47 Jacobson

Marian Reus ’47 Jacobson, long time resident of Mesa County, passed away recently at the age of 92. She was born on October 9, 1925, in the west Michigan village of Jamestown where her father was the General Practitioner/MD. She graduated from Zeeland High School (near Jamestown) and subsequently attended Hope College, the University of Michigan , and completed graduate studies at Wayne State University. She moved west to Grand Junction with her husband, Warren R. Jacobson, where he opened a Pediatrics practice. They successfully staked a very good uranium mine northwest of Moab UT which was sold to Union Carbide for corporate stock, they also owned farms in the Grand Valley and the Deep Creek Ranch in Eagle County. Marian was a child psychologist for the State of Colorado doing special needs assessments and interventions for at risk children in Moffat, Rio Blanco and Garfield Counties, later she was the abused children/youth offender psychologist for the Mesa County Combined Courts. The Jacobson’s had three children, Eric, Jana, and Kirsten, and ten grandchildren.Marian really loved her work and especially enjoyed making a positive contribution to difficult (and sometimes horrifying) cases; she was available for her patients 24/7. She was not bounded by ordinary social constraints; she loved her family, her farm, birds, travel, poetry, friends, edgy horses, red wine, sailboats, and fast driving. A memorial dinner, per her request, is being held at the Bookcliff Country Club on May 19, at 6:30 p.m. (please RSVP to Eric at 970.729.0034 so we can provide BCC with a probable head count); interment will be in west Michigan on August 11.
