Lois Austin ’48 Horne

Lois Austin ’48 Horne, age 91, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018. Lois was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from West Side High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Hope College in Michigan, where she met her future husband Eugene (Gene) and did graduate work at Florida Atlantic University after moving to Florida with her family in 1956. Lois taught in several elementary schools in Broward County, Florida, and retired to Leesburg, Florida in 1982. Lois and her family spent most of their summers in Maggie Valley NC in their cabin in the mountains. She was active in the Leesburg women’s club for many years and received a certificate of recognition for over fifty years of membership in the Women’s Club. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, spending time with her son, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her great grandchildren brought a sparkle to her eyes. She married Eugene (Gene) L. Horne in 1949. He passed away in 2011. She is survived by a daughter, Merrilee D. “Mimi” Beliveau and son-in-law, Greg A. Beliveau of Okahumpka; A son, the Rev. Kenneth G. Horne of Ocala; granddaughters Heather Tutor (Aaron) of Montgomery, Texas; Danielle Magamoll (Karson) of Fruitland Park; and five great-grandchildren. The Funeral is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 12:00 noon at the GOOD NEWS CHURCH, 400 Executive Blvd, in Leesburg, Florida with the Rev. John Blake, Pastor. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Good News Church.
