John White ’73

John White ’73 passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 22, 2018. Born September 19, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY to Agnes (Aitken) White and Robert Gordon White, he graduated from Hope College and received his Ph.D. from Syracuse University, where he studied statistics, logic, and philosophy. He enjoyed a career in human resources, rising to Vice President of Human Resources for BDM Federal before starting his own HR consulting company in 1995. John loved golf and was a certified golf instructor. He als o had a rich variety of other hobbies, which included travel (all 50 states and dozens of countries), Irish dancing, charity work, and a love of the arts–especially movies. Even as he fought against the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that took his life, he retained his kind and thoughtful sense of humor, remarking near the end that: “I had a good run… my only regret is that I never got a hole in one.”  He is survived by his wife, Deborah White, sisters, Diane Lasher and Carol Carpluk; his brothers, Bob and David White and their wives, Carol and Jeanne White; as well as 14 nieces and nephews, and his step-daughter, Karma Loberg and grandson, Paul.  A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on May 12, 2018 at the Army Navy Country Club, 1700 Army Navy Drive, Arlington, VA 22202.
