David Wyma ’62

David Wyma ’62, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018, at Trillium Hospice.

Dave was born on August 17, 1940, to John and Josephine Wyma of Grand Haven, MI.

After graduating from Grand Haven High School, he graduated from both Hope College and Western Michigan University. He impacted the lives of many as an elementary principal within the Jenison Public Schools. He then served as an educational missionary for the RCA and Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. He finished his career as director of Sol del Valle Community Center. He loved to connect with people and will be remembered for taking a genuine interest in the lives of all he came into contact with. Over the years he enjoyed sailing, playing tennis, biking, singing, playing the guitar, reading, and listening to talk radio.

He is survived by his son, Gregory (and Erin) Wyma of Holland, MI, and daughter, Jill (and Don) Van Singel of Dorr, MI. He was an incredibly proud “Pop Pops” to Lauren, Jacob, and Aidan Van Singel and Madelyn and Elise Wyma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard, and his beloved wife of 30 years, Barbara Louise Wolford.

Visitation to be held on Sunday, February 25, from 2-5 p.m. at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th Street, Holland, MI 49423. A Celebration of Life service to be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or to the Barbara Wolford Wyma Endowed Scholarship of Bucknell University.
