Harvey Mulder ’56

Harvey Mulder ’56, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at University Hospital Conneaut.

The son of Dick Henry and Irene Dorothy (Brakesma) Mulder, Harvey was born on Feb. 2, 1931, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A proud Veteran of the United States Army and having served in Germany during the Korean Conflict, he was honorably discharged in 1953 as Corporal.

A member of the Reformed Church in America, he attended Hope College in Holland, Mich., where he was a member of Omicron Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from Hope with a major in Political Science in 1956. He moved to Ashtabula in 1968 from Marquette, Mich.

On April 25, 1970, Patricia Powell and Harvey Mulder were united in marriage. Together they celebrated 46 years of enduring love and companionship. Harvey was employed for 40 years with the Social Security Administration, serving as District Manager for Ashtabula and Lake Counties. Harvey believed in serving the community in which he lived.

He served on the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries for 23 years, Board of Directors for Harbor-Topky Library, City Planning Commission, and the Ashtabula Senior Center. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club and BPOE #208. Harvey was an avid reader who stayed well informed on issues and politics. He enjoyed traveling with family, and he found relaxation tending to his vegetable garden. Harvey will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to community, and his kindness to others.

Harvey is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; sons, Dirk of Williams, Ore., and Eric of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sister, Bernadette, and niece, Summeur, both of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his adoptive mother Elizabeth Mulder
