Scott Earl ’86

Scott W. Earl, 59, of Lambertville, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly January 29, 2024, in his home. He was born on June 19, 1964, in Port Clinton, Ohio, to William and Janyce (Sumney) Earl. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1982 where he was a record-breaking track athlete. He attended Hope College and the University of Toledo to study education. He married the love of his life, Jennifer Joy, on June 16, 2006.

Scott was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His life’s work was to educate. Mr. Earl taught English, AP Literature, AP Language, Mythology, Yearbook, and Creative Writing at Bedford High School over the past 25 years. He was a fiercely passionate and devoted teacher, cross country and track “Mule Pack” coach, and mentor. He was a deep thinker, an ardent reader, and a talented lifelong writer. Scott was a giver; he fervently gave his time and energy to his loved ones, students, athletes, and community. He was recently honored as the Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Michigan Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). He generously and humbly shared his many talents and vast wisdom with others. He had a remarkable sense of humor. Through Greyhounds of Eastern Michigan, Scott and Jennifer were proud foster parents to many greyhounds. Scott had the unique gift of quickly forming genuine connection with people from all walks of life. He cared deeply about people. He was an Elder of Elem3nt Church in Blissfield, Michigan where he enjoyed growing in and sharing his love for Christ. He led by example. Through his teaching, coaching, mentorship, and community involvement, he changed countless lives.

Scott is survived by his mother, Janyce Earl; loving wife, Jennifer (Joy) Earl; children, Brittany (Jacobson) Bradybaugh, Aloiya (Logan) Kremer, Jackson (Elizabeth) Earl, and Alexis Laginess; grandchildren, Addison, Amber, Riley, August, and Colby; and sister, Marci (John) Russo. Also surviving are his parents-in-law, John and Janel Joy; sister-in-law, Jessica (Matthew) Wegener; nieces and nephews, Rocco Russo, Mackintosh (Erica) Joy, Maddison Wegener, and Braeden Wegener; and importantly, his beloved greyhound, Lacey. He was preceded in death by his father, William Earl.
