James Shalek Jr. ’69

James A. Shalek, of Winfield, IL, son of James A. and Evelyn Shalek passed away on December 2, 2022 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Jim was born in Chicago, IL. He later moved to Ingleside, IL where he spent his childhood. Jim was a graduate of Grant High School and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He remained in contact with many college friends more than 50 years later.

After college, Jim taught mathematics for several years. He became interested in the financial services industry in 1973. Jim held Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter designations from the American College. He was a Life and Qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table for over a quarter century, serving on the board for 15 years. He was past President of NAIFA DuPage and NAIFA Illinois, volunteering on a national committee for 5 years. Jim was previously President of the Board of the Directors for Midwest Epilepsy Center. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Yorkville, IL.

James is survived by his loved and proud wife, Susan, and beloved daughter, Stephanie Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents James A. and Evelyn Shalek.

Jim enjoyed helping his clients for over 47 years. Many became close friends. Away from work, he loved golfing, traveling and spending time with family members at his two homes in Illinois and Florida.
