Arlene Schutt ’67 Tenckinck

Arlene Tenckinck of Bedminster, NJ (formerly of Warwick, NY) passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2023. She was 78 years old.

Born in Holland, MI on December 22, 1944, she was the daughter of Harry and Helene (Michielsen) Schutt.

Arlene attended Calvin College and worked as a nurse for Holland Hospital. She returned to college and earned a master’s degree in teaching from Hope College and taught at St. Patrick’s School in Sheldon, IA. While living in Warwick, NY, Arlene was the program coordinator at the Warwick Conference Center. She was a longtime member of the Warwick Reformed Church where she helped with Vacation Bible School and played in the handbell choir. She loved music, even country music.

Arlene was a 21-year kidney transplant survivor. She received her kidney from a dear friend in 2001.

Arlene is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth ’66; son Stephen ’96 and his wife Sarah of Grosse Point Park, MI; daughters Kathlene DeFoe and her husband Thaddeus of Des Moines, IA, and Helene Scott and her husband Michael of Taunton, England; and son Michielsen Tenckinck and his wife Becky of Bondurant, IA; eight grandchildren: Grace, Jonah, Maddie, Noah, Raela, Hasbrouck, Lucia, and Mikah; two brothers Raymon Schutt and Howard Schutt, and sister-in-law Marlie Schutt all of Holland, MI.
