George Herlein ’57

George L. Herlein, age 89 passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021. George was born on August 3, 1932 the son of Lammert and Caroline (Spooner). After high school he served in the military for two years from 1953 to 1955. George obtained a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics from Hope College and Masters Degree from Western Michigan University in Mathematics. He taught Mathematics at Romeo High School from January 1959 until June 1992. In the summers he painted many houses in the Romeo community. Before his passing he was very active in various capacities at Hope Community Baptist Church. George loved spending time with his family along with traveling, photography, and music. George was a lifelong learner which included taking courses (well into his Eighties), at Detroit Bible College and a course in Advanced Mathematical Theory at Hillsdale College. George also authored 2 books in his Eighties. George is survived by his two children; Paul (Nancy) Herlein of Sterling Heights and Karen (Brad) Boekeloo of Kalamazoo. Grandkids; David (Sara) Herlein, Ryan (Sarah) Boekeloo and Great Grandson Skyler Boekeloo, Laura (Salvador Arizmendi) Boekeloo and Julia Herlein. Stepsister; Nancy Degraves and dear friend Maggi Beeman. George was predeceased by his loving wives Carol Homfeld and Arlene Faulker. Siblings; RobertHerlein, BettyGzym, Mary Hawkins, Alice Covington, RogerHerlein, Fredrick Hoffman, Clifford Hoffman, and Carol Postema. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11 AM at Hope Community Baptist Church (42259 Hayes Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48313). Visitation will take place on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 5-8 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Christian Memorial Gardens in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
