Rodney Broman ’66

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, Rodney Lee Broman, Ph.D., 75, of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020.

He grew up in Spring Lake, MI and attended and graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in Delafield, WI where he was awarded medals of honor as a Cadet Captain. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Hope College, Rodney attended North Carolina State University where he received his Master of Science Microbiology.

With his love of research and development, he received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from North Carolina State and went on to a career in Microbiology research and development with Becton Dickinson. His career in Microbiology research abruptly came to an end in the mid 80’s after suffering from a brain aneurism and stroke. He served on many nonprofit boards in the community after his rehabilitation. Rod’s love of God, life, and family was an inspiration to many. In 1999 he married the love of his life Julie (Beaumont) Broman.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Julie Broman, children, Cynthia Broman, Rodney Broman Jr, Michael (Peggy) Broman, Amy (Jayson) Quist, Edward (Annamae) Alexander, his grandchildren Britney Lynn (Justin) Perry, Rodney Lee Broman III, Hannah Broman, Tyler Moore, Jayden, Keegan, Gracelyn Quist, James and Bailie Alexander, three great-granddaughters, sister Pamela (Broman) Fair, nephew Robert Joseph Fair and niece Amber (Thomas) Montgomery and two great-nieces and one great-nephew and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded by his parents Clarence and Blanche (Berger) Broman of Spring Lake MI.
