R. James Bos ’46
The Rev. R. James Bos, age 92, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, MI., where he had been hospitalized the past week.
He was born April 26, 1925 in Muskegon to William B. and Minnie (Herlein) Bos. Following graduation from Muskegon High School, he attended Dartmouth and Hope Colleges; and was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In 1949, Jim was ordained as a Minister of the Word of the Reformed Church in America; and then served as Pastor at First Reformed Church of Three Oaks, MI, Paradise Community Reformed Church of Modesto, CA, First Reformed Church of Hospers, IA, Rehobeth Reformed Church of Lucas, MI, Ebenezer Reformed Church of Morrison, IL, First Reformed Church of Three Oaks, MI and Word of Hope Church of Fruitport. Following his retirement, he served as Minister of Visitation at Unity Reformed Church, Norton Shores, his ‘home’ church, where he was a member.
On June 22, 1949, he married the former Genevieve P. Duiser, and she survives him along with their 3 children, Mary (Rev. Dr. Robert) VanVoorst of Holland, MI, Charlene (Rev. David) Alexander of Taiwan, Rev. Robert (Dr. Tamala) Bos of Albuquerque, NM; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Richard (Bonnie) VanVoorst, Nicholas (Jessica) VanVoorst, Dr. Katherine (Gene Young) Alexander, Grant (Katelyn) Alexander, Alexander Bos and William Bos; 4 great-grandchildren, twins, William and Robert VanVoorst, Camille VanVoorst and Octavia VanVoorst; 1 brother, Jack Bos of Grand Haven and 1 sister, Charlotte (Earl) Laman of Holland, MI. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Shirley Bos and Trena Medema and brother, William B. Bos, Jr.
