Marion VanDyke ’43 Clark

Marion VanDyke ’43 Clark of Wheaton, Illinois, formerly of Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect, Illinois, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5, 2018. Mary was born on November 10, 1921 to Rev. Dr. Henry and Jeanette Van Dyke in a suburb of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mary’s family came to live in Holland, Michigan where she grew up and graduated from Holland High School in 1939. She attended Hope College and graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing (now Rush University) in 1944. Mary met her husband, J. Ross Clark, while they were both working in Chicago. They moved to Mount Prospect to raise their two children, Richard and Mary. Mary was active in her community being elected to the Mount Prospect Library Board and a being a member of the Mount Prospect Nurses Club, and volunteering at Northwestern Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. After the death of her husband in 1974, Mary went to work as an occupational health nurse for BMO-Harris Bank. Mary was fiercely proud of her Dutch heritage and being an RN. She loved to play bridge, knit, travel, watch football, and to be with her family. Mary is survived by her son Richard (Ursula) Clark, her daughter Mary (Gary) Burge, her grandchildren Kristen (Ryan) Schumacher, Aileen Burge, and Michael Burge, and her great grandchildren Joelle and Arianna Schumacher. Besides her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Albertus (Bud) Van Dyke. Mary’s family would like to thank everyone at the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Wheaton and VITAS Healthcare for their care and support.
