Wayne Platzer ’60

Wayne D. Platzer, born at Albany Medical Center in 1939, died on Saturday, October 14, 2017. He taught biology at Niskayuna High School for 26 years. A graduate ofHope College, Holland, Mich., he completed a master’s degree at Syracuse University in 1961 and was awarded three NSF graduate study awards in bacteriology, genetics and cytology, for summer courses during the 1960’s. Additionally, he studied marine biology at Duke University Marine Lab in Beaufort, N.C. A believer in the future of stem cell research, Mr. Platzer bequeathed the majority of his estate to the Salk Institute for stem cell research in La Jolla, Calif. He left no survivors. There will be no calling hours, but a brief service and burial in his home town of Castleton, in the family plot. applebeefuneralhome.com
