Shirley Nienhuis ’50 Proctor

Shirley Dean Nienhuis Proctor, 89, died peacefully with family by her side Jan. 7, 2018. Shirley was born and grew up in Holland. She attended Hope College and Western Michigan University, married Jim Proctor, and came to Indianapolis some 60 years ago.

Shirley Proctor was a member of First Friends Meeting, rug hooking groups, volunteer committees, and served hospice, the church, family, and many friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was supportive, a good listener, and gave so much to so many. Shirley was an artist who brought forth and leaves a legacy of beauty, comfort, and meaning in this world. She was principled, kind, giving, creative, courageous, and a woman of faith.

Shirley Proctor is preceded in death by her husband A. James Proctor, and survived by her sons Kris (and wife, Erin) Proctor and Dean Proctor and two grandchildren Patrick and Erin Proctor.

A memorial service will be held at IndianapolisFirst Friends Meeting on Feb. 10, at 1 p.m.The placement of her urn will be in the spring in Holland, Michigan. Memorials may be sent to Indianapolis First Friends Meeting, 3030 Kessler Blvd. Indianapolis, IN 46220. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park North.
