Marie Cossin ’58 Hansen
Marie Lois Cossin Bakker Hansen lived a full life and was loved by many. She was born in Detroit, MI to Helga (Bostrom) and Hursle Cossin with brothers David Cossin and Russell Cossin. She passed gracefully from this life to her new eternal home with her Lord on December 10, 2017. This year she will celebrate Christmas in heaven. She attended Central High School, Hope College and later in life Graduated from Grand Valley State University with a teaching degree. Her family will miss her beyond words. Her children: Karyl (Bob DeBruyn), Karyn (Randy Lee) and Mitch (Chris) Bakker, her grandchildren: Shawna (Lee) Thomas (Jeff), Katie (DeBruyn) Kepler (Nathanael), Branden Lee (reunited in heaven), Christopher DeBruyn (Janar Samyon), Michelle DeBruyn, David Bakker, Joshua Bakker (Kelci), Luke Bakker, and Grace Bakker. Her great grandchildren: Kendra Neitz, Finnegan Kepler, Viktor DeBruyn, and Ella Kepler. Marie loved life and enjoyed music. She was very talented and enjoyed playing the piano, flute, and dulcimer. She was active in her church, especially choir and bell choir and playing the piano. She was strong at Math earning her an admission to the engineering school at Michigan Tech (she declined as she was in love with Karl and could not bear being that far away). She married Karl Bakker and was married for 35 years. Her math skills served her well at her job at Grand Rapids City Income Tax. Her favorite place to be was at her cottage on Negaunee Lake, enjoying her neighbors, pontoon boat rides and visiting with her children and grandchildren. Special thank you to Grand Traverse Pavilions Willow Cottage staff for offering so much love and tenderness to Marie. A visitation will be held Friday December 15, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Washington Park Cemetery Grand Rapids.
