Rosemary Finlaw ’48 Commeret Penn

Rosemary Finlaw ’48 Commeret Penn went to be with her Lord. She was 91 years old. She resided at Brookcrest Christian Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Raymond Commeret ’45 in 2003 and her second husband, Maury Penn, in 2011.

She is survived by her four children, Timothy (Lelia) Commeret of Barre Vermont, Lucie (George) Marsden of Grand Rapids, Thomas Commeret of Boston Massachusetts and Karen Commeret of Wilmington Delaware. She was the grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of ten children. She is survived by her sisters Ronnie Finlaw ’46 Green and Anne Finlaw ’54 (John ’57) Holmlund.

Rosemary was born December 26, 1924 in Brooklyn NY. She went to Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She married Raymond Commeret in 1947 and was a helpmeet in his ministry until his death. Her outgoing personality, generous spirit, hospitality and lovely singing voice made her an ideal pastor’s wife. After his death in 2003, she reunited with an old and dear friend, Maury Penn, a longstanding member of the Fairlawn Orthodox Presbyterian Church. They fell in love and were married in 2006. In 1972 the Commerets moved to Barre Vermont where they planted a church. She worked as a social worker for the state of Vermont from 1972 to 1995, retiring when they moved to Wyoming Michigan. Both Raymond and Rosemary became very active in the Harvest Orthodox Presbyterian Church, in their capacity as “elders” and advisers to the young congregation.
