Ben Mahaffie ’11

Ben Mahaffie ’11 has been named the
2022 Dr. Carl A. Gerstacker Trooper of
the Year by the Michigan State Police.
The award recognizes the MSP trooper
or sergeant who symbolizes outstanding
professional ethics, dedication to duty
and a concern for giving back to the
community. Now a detective sergeant
with the Fifth District’s Benton Harbor
Major Case Unit, Ben was nominated
while serving as a sergeant at the Paw
Paw Post. Among other service, he
is president of the Niles, Michigan,
chapter of the State Trooper Outreach
Partnership and established a migrant
outreach program.
