Window to Hope’s History: Home-Game Road Trip

The opening of the Jim Heeringa Athletic Center at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium in August has placed first-rate locker rooms and related space for the baseball, football and softball teams literally within sight of their respective playing fields. How times have changed. There have of course been transitional steps in between, but when this photo was taken at old Riverview Park north of campus circa the mid-1960s, the football team suited up at Carnegie-Schouten Gymnasium (razed in 1982) and rode the intervening six blocks north along Columbia Avenue packed into the back of the college-owned stake truck whose day job was to pick up trash from the residence halls.
