Phyllis DeVries ’72 Everett

Phyllis Kay (DeVries) Everett of DeMotte, age 70, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 29, 2021.

Phyllis was born to Kenneth and Lois (Hoffman) DeVries on July 17, 1950 in Rensselaer, Indiana. Phyllis graduated from DeMotte High School, class of 1968. She then went on to graduate from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and received a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Eastern Kentucky University.

Phyllis was a data analyst who became quickly promoted to database programming in her tenure at Texaco from 1976 to 2003. She continued with contract work at P2 Energy Solutions until early this year when she decided to finally retire. While growing up on the family farm, Phyllis helped her parents farm, run the blueberry field, and garden. After college she moved to Texas and built a family but ultimately wanted to come back home to be close to her parents and her siblings. She returned to DeMotte in 2013 and lived the rest of her life in the same home she spent her entire childhood.

She was an active member of her church and church choir and was a member of the Jasper County Choraliers. She loved to garden and kept immaculate flower beds along with continuing her parents’ huge garden. If she wasn’t in the garden, you could find her building puzzles, enjoying coffee on the deck, or visiting her grandchildren in Texas.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Neil, their son, Kenny Peake of Houston, TX, their daughter, Jen Bohacek (and husband Russell) of Dripping Springs, TX, their son Clint Everett of DeMotte, their 3 grandchildren, Lily, Luke, and Quinn, her father, Kenneth DeVries, and siblings, Christine (Dave) De St. Jean, Gloria (Mick) Sullivan, Donna (Vernon) Jonkman, Brenda DeVries, and Robert (Karen) DeVries. Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother, Lois DeVries.
