Jill Clegg ’79

ill Lee Clegg, age 64, passed away September 6, 2021. She passed suddenly, but peacefully, at home.

She is survived by her Father and Mother, Duane and Donna Clegg; her brothers, Chris (Catherine) Clegg; Scott (Kotomi) Clegg; Todd (Andrea) Clegg; nieces and nephews, Lane (Jacob) Current and Paige (Andrew) Klooster; Alex and Lauren Clegg; Kyle and Rye Clegg; and great-niece Harper Klooster. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy and Sophie Clegg, and Eldred and Beatrice Rye.

Jill was born in Brighton, Michigan on March 10, 1957, and grew up in Westland, Michigan the oldest of four. As the only girl, she clearly held her own with her three brothers, and went on to accomplish much in her life. Always a great student, Jill attended Hope College and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. She furthered her education, completing a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Detroit, while she was a full-time working professional.

Jill worked for 35 years, alongside her mother, father, and her brother, in the family business (Chief’s Trucking) started by her father. She ultimately ascended to the position of President, co-leading the company with her brother Todd. In her free time, Jill loved to travel the world. Whether taking a cruise to Alaska; a trip to London, Paris, or Rome; or going ‘Up North’ to her cottage to spend time in the Michigan outdoors fishing and birdwatching with her mom and dad; it was traveling the world with family and friends that brought her so much joy.

She was an animal lover through and through and truly enjoyed going to the zoo, often taking her nieces and nephews along. She enjoyed her family more than anything and was loved dearly by all. Her nieces and nephews always enjoyed their time with Aunt Jill, whether it was holiday dinners or a trip to the zoo. We will miss her dearly, but we are so grateful for our time with her. Jill was a woman of faith and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Allen Park, Michigan. She was a model for the family and taught all of us the importance of kindness, commitment, faith, and mostly love and caring for each other. We know this angel will be welcomed to Heaven with open arms and abundant joy. May she rest in peace.
