Ivan “Ike” VanderKolk ’60

Vander Kolk, Ivan “Ike” Ivan “Ike” Vander Kolk, age 81, went home to his Lord and Savior on August 14, 2020, where he was joyfully reunited with his son Brent.

Ike was preceded in death by parents, Nelson and Marian, son Brent, and brother Roger. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Mary; children Wayne (Shelley) Vander Kolk and Sandy (Chris) LaGrand; daughter-in-law, Jamie Vander Kolk; six grandchildren: Ivan, Eli, Rachel, Kirsten, Grant and Beck; sister, Dorie Meendering, and stepbrother, Jack (Mary) Ligtenberg; brothersand sisters-in-law, Gene and Lilarae Bush and Carl and Ruth Bush; and nieces and nephews.

Ike was a graduate of Hope College and served in the Army as a young man. He retired after 38 years from Old Kent/Fifth Third Bank. A true family man, Ike dedicated his life to providing for his family and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons, tending his garden, and watching wildlife. Plus, Ike relished a good sporting event from the grandkids’ teams to the Tigers. A man of faith, Ike lived a life of integrity and service, from leading the youth group to serving as a deacon to leading worship. Ike will be remembered for his generosity, quick wit, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.
