Charity Priest ’77 Johnson

Charity Louise Johnson, 65, of Grant, formerly of Elkhart and Goshen, Indiana, passed away suddenly on September 11, 2020 at home.

She was born on April 26, 1955 to Peter and Janice (Hamilton) Priest in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from North Vigo High School, Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1973 and attended Hope College, Indiana University South Bend, and Walden University finishing her Master’s Degree. She was a Special Education paraprofessional and Day Camp/Overnight Camp director for the Indiana Lakeland Girl Scouts Council. Charity worked as a Special Education Teacher for Fairfield High School, Goshen, Indiana, until her retirement.

She was very involved in the quilting community in Western Michigan. She enjoyed travling with her friends. She loved her cats, spending time crafting with the grandchildren and giving gifts. She was great at conversation, and loved to talk with people, as well as the time she spent playing cards in her condo community. She volunteered at Love INC. Newaygo and was very active in helping on Election Days.

Charity is survived by her son Chris (Jessica) Johnson of Westfield, Indiana; daughter Mindy (Devon) Conley of Grant, Michigan; two grandsons Brennan Johnson, Jared Conley; three granddaughters Scarlett Johnson, Francie Johnson, Casey Conley; father Peter Priest II; mother Janice Phillips; brother Peter (Lena) Priest III; two sisters Cathy (Bruce) Eberly, Cynthia Priest; and several nieces and nephews.
