Douglas Morton ’80

Douglas Charles Morton was born June 12, 1958, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Charles Frederick Morton and Susan Jane Fricker Morton.  He was the second of five children.  He died unexpectedly on August 20, 2019, at home in Denver, Colorado.

He grew up in Ann Arbor through 8th grade.  He was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, camping out frequently, going to Philmont Boy Scout Camp with his troop in 1972 and becoming a Life Scout.  

His family moved to Union City, Michigan, in 1972 and Doug attended Union City High School from 9th through 12th grade, graduating in 1976.  At  Union City High, he was active in sports, competing in varsity football, junior varsity basketball, and varsity track.  In football, he played for four years and was All-Conference in his senior year.

Doug matriculated to Hope College, in Holland, Michigan, played some freshman football and joined a fraternity.  He made several lifelong friends at Hope and graduated in 1980.

Doug was a happy-go-lucky person that many people leaned on, looked up to for advice, and called upon when they needed a good laugh, or a good story!  He was an avid adventurer, outdoorsman, and proud father of two beautiful children, Cody of Whitefish, Montana, and Kailee of Loveland, Colorado..  He never gave up on love and found his soulmate, Cindy, who he married in 2016.  Their love spilled over to all who knew them!

Doug was an entrepreneur who never stopped re-inventing himself and his business.  He will be dearly missed by more people than he could ever imagine!
