Adrian Vander Sluis ’50

Adrian Vander Sluis ’50, age 93 of Holland, passed away on June 4, 2018 at Resthaven Care Center in Holland, MI. He was born on September 12, 1924 to Leonard and Jennie VanderSluis in Holland. Ade served his Country in the United States Army during WWII, from 1943 to 1946, where he was a Staff Sergeant serving in the Pacific. In 1948, after his service in the Army, he married Genevieve Barnhard, and then graduated from Hope College in 1950. Ade and his wife were both longtime members of Fourth Reformed Church in Holland. He worked his whole career for Western Foundry, retiring as the Works Manager.

After his retirement, Ade remained active with his church and community activities, and enjoyed traveling with Genevieve until her death in 2007.

Ade was a loving and dedicated man, who lived a life fully devoted to his faith, family, friends, and country. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Adrian is survived by his sons, Kurt VanderSluis of Port Townsend, Washington and Michael VanderSluis of Holland; sister, Marie Johnson of Holland; and in-laws, Sherwin (Joan) Vliem and Larry (Marilyn) Vliem, all of Holland. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
