Eugene S. Marcus ’50

Eugene S. Marcus ’50, 87, of North Canton passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, July 31, 2016.

He was born December 22, 1928 in Holland, Michigan, to the late Tien and Lena Marcus. Gene served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1951 to 1957.

He graduated from Hope College of Holland, Michigan.  Gene was employed by Ryerson Steel for 30 years where he achieved the position of Executive Vice President Administration in Chicago main office and held management positions in San Francisco, Cleveland and Milwaukee.

He served as a deacon at Northminster Presbyterian Church of North Canton. Gene enjoyed his family, traveling, golf, the Cleveland Indian’s and being a volunteer Marshall for ten years at the Bridgestone Golf Tournament in Akron.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Kay Marcus; sibling, James Marcus, Maurice Marcus ’30, Lewis Marcus, Cliff Marcus ’39, Gladys Dipenhorst and Hazel Plakke.  Gene is survived by his wife Betty Lou Davidson who he married on March 19, 1951 in Denver Colorado and has celebrated 65 years of marriage.  Gene was a loving father to his son, Larry Marcus and his wife Nancy Glaus Marcus of North Canton. He was most proud of his grown grandchildren, Tyler Marcus of North Canton, Alexandra Marcus of Cincinnati and Kyle Marcus of Columbus.
