Sarah Martin ’00 MacLachlan

Sarah Elizabeth Martin MacLachlan of Midland began her eternal sleep surrounded by close family on January 30 following a long and complicated fight with lymphoma.
A long-time 8th grade English teacher at Bullock Creek Sarah’s “family” extended larger than most. She had a generation of students she looked out for and followed as they grew into adults, began careers and started families locally, across the state and across the country. Sarah also derived great pride the runners under her charge coaching cross country and track at the middle school and high school. She had a special place in her heart for the theater types and was part of the middle school play production team for many years.
Outside of school, Sarah loved watching her twin daughters Kate and Claire in their many activities – figure skating, equestrian, cross country, track and more. A marching band drum major in high school, Sarah was particularly proud of Kate and Claire’s musical achievements.
She greatly enjoyed traveling, whether to the beaches in Florida or the shores of Lake Superior in the western Upper Peninsula, where she liked to visit family and see her dad’s old stomping grounds. She loved playing Mario Kart and other games with her daughters, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, reading and just spending quiet time at home. But as much as anything, she liked shopping with her mom, always on the lookout at a garage sale or thrift store for that unique item that she could sell on eBay for a profit.
Sarah was a Bullock Creek High School and Hope College graduate.
Sarah will be greatly missed by her husband (Scott), daughters (Kate and Claire), parents (Dale and Vickie (Shaver) Martin), brother (Aaron and Sarah), in-laws (Walt and Pam (Roberts) MacLachlan, Kathy and David Gillespie with nephew Brendan), and many aunts, uncles and cousins, along with countless friends, colleagues and former students.
