Margaret Doorenbos nee Margaret Grace Hospers
Born March 28, 1934 Utica, New York, Died June 3, 2024 Holland, MI. Margaret (then Hospers) and her twin sister Mary left Alexandria Bay, NY to attend Hope College. There she met and married Harvey Doorenbos of Morrison, IL. After his medical and surgical training, they went to serve as missionaries in the Arab world, taking language training in Bahrain and then being assigned to Oman. After 10 years in the middle east, they moved together to Ethiopia where they served the remainder of their career. After “retiring” to Holland, MI, they continued as mission volunteers on shorter-term assignments in several African countries.
Margaret was a sister, daughter, friend, wife, teacher, mother, grandmother, and author. She was blessed to enjoy being a blessing through a life of mission, caring, teaching, support, hospitality, and witness. Over the past 90+ years she joyfully rose to the challenges and adventures of numerous settings on several continents taking on roles as needed in the time and place. Her home was open and welcoming to visiting church officials, medical specialists, stray cats brought in by the children, local students in need of household or garden work to cover school fees or books, and many more.
