June Davis ’64 Vanderlaan
June Dorothy (Davis) Vanderlaan, 82, a resident of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on April 11, 2024 at Northern Dutchess Hospital after an extended battle with cancer. Born on February 4, 1942 in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late George G. and Evelyn (Woodward) Davis. She grew up in Yonkers and attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She graduated in 1964 with a degree in education, and in the same year married her husband of 59 years, Robert L. Vanderlaan. Bob and June met at Hope College and lived in New Jersey, California, and New York while raising two sons, Brett and Craig. June retired from Saugerties CSD to conclude a 42-year teaching career.
June lived a life of spirited service. She was an engaging, committed member of numerous organizations and communities. She volunteered at Wilderstein Historic Site, the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce, Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck at Home, Mid-Hudson Tres Dias, and was extremely involved at the various churches served by her pastor husband. After Bob’s retirement, she was a member of the Rhinebeck Reformed Church.

June was an avid baker, basket-maker, quilter and maker of sewing crafts – winning multiple honors/ribbons at Dutchess County Fairs. She was a gracious hostess, organizing many church events as well as the family’s annual holiday open house. She closely followed the activities and accomplishments of her grandson, Kai, including frequent visits to see his performances.
June is survived by her husband, Bob, sons Brett (and Kimberly) and Craig (and Sarah), and her grandson Kai. She was predeceased by her parents and older sister, Evelyn Jane Burgay. She will be missed greatly by extended family and friends alike.
